On their first date Justin and Megan jumped off waterfalls. Adventure is part of their love story.
These guys are super smart, kinda sarcastic, always-fun-to-be-around kind of people. We have kids the same age so we can totally relate to each other about the newest cartoon or toy or crazy thing our boys are into. I’ve had the privilege of photographing their family portraits a few times and when Megan said that she wanted me to photograph their wedding day I was beyond stoked. Stay tuned for that blog post in May because this wedding is going to be epic!
For the engagement portraits we planned a morning session in Kapaa that would document a “day in the life.” We started the day at their home. I was doing Megan’s hair and makeup as Adove worked her magic creating looks with clothes and accessories and jewelry of her own creations. Justin had taken their 2 year old son to daycare. It was full on girly time. Everything came together easily, we were chatting, giggling, and singing along to Prince (RIP) on the radio. I want everyday to start like this. When sweet Justin got home he jumped right to the vibe and starting giving us a fashion show. More giggling.
The first stop was downtown Kapaa at Java Kai. Our little local coffee shop was bumping with folks getting their morning fix. We headed outside to enjoy the beverages on their steps in the morning sun. Cars were buzzing by, friends stopped to say hello. I loved photographing them amongst all the busyness around us.
We moved on down the street and took our time checking out the little shops downtown. The sun was rising higher and the day started to warm up.
Time to go to the Kapaa jungle. The photoshoot moved from playful and sunny to romantic and intimate. They changed clothes then we hiked a jungle path to a quiet river.
Engagement sessions are the time when everything is really about just the two of you. No distractions. No timeline. So sweet.
Justin and Megan,
Thank you for trekking all over Kapaa with me! I hope that you cherish these photos and they remind of the magical time in your life when you were “Engaged.” That in between time where you are more than a couple and everyday carries an excitement and anticipation of your marriage.
Being your family photographer is such an honor for me. You guys are rad. I cannot wait to photograph your wedding in May. Love you bunches!
Aloha,
Keri
